How Can You Help?

The Star-Ledger

It’s been more than two years since Superstorm Sandy, and a lot of people are still not back in their homes. As I have written below, I periodically volunteer with the St. Bernard Project.  They are working in collaboration with AmeriCorpsSea Bright Rising, and Farmers Insurance to help rebuild communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

There are several ways that you can help too:

Donate money to the St. Bernard Project, or Sea Bright Rising;
Host a Fundraiser;
Donate Tools;

One other thing: If you’d like to join me next time I go to help out with the reconstruction, let me know. It is a very rewording way to spend a day, you meet some great people, and you can really make a difference!

Insurance Tip: Do you have the right coverage for your Personal Property?

There are two distinct ways to insure your personal possessions:

Replacement cost coverage:

This coverage pays you the dollar amount needed to replace personal property without any deduction for depreciation, but is limited to a maximum dollar amount.

Actual cash value:

This coverage pays you an amount equal to the replacement value of damaged property minus depreciation. Unless a homeowners policy specifies that property is covered for its replacement value, the coverage is for actual cash value.

Another point to keep in mind is that many people make the mistake of underestimating the value of their home contents. This mistake is easily made when you consider the amount of new items we purchase each year. Under-insurance can lead to heartache and inconvenience should the unexpected happen.

Conclusion: Make sure that you know what type of personal property coverage you have, and that you have enough coverage, BEFORE you have a claim. The difference could be substantial. Check your policy today.

It’s been two years since Super Storm Sandy

Wednesday, October 29th will mark the two year anniversary of Super Storm Sandy. In remembrance of the Storm, the David Robinson Farmers Insurance Agency will be continuing our volunteering efforts to help rebuild New Jersey communities affected by the storm. We will be participating in a 29 hour rebuild event October 28th through October 29th in cooperation with Sea Bright Rising.

Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Jersey shore destroying over 346,000 homes in New Jersey and causing approximately $37 billion in damage. Farmers Insurance played a pivotal role in the hours after the storm hit, setting up locations across the region to help assist customers and provide relief. Though much progress has been made since the Storm, there is still work to be done in the community of Sea Bright and other cities in New Jersey and Farmers remains committed to assisting the continuing efforts.

“Farmers has a history of being the first on scene to help in the immediate aftermath of disaster,” said Chad Carson, Director of Sea Bright Rising. “We’re excited to work with Farmers in an effort to rebuild the community of Sea Bright and others like it on the Jersey shore. Through Farmers experience in working with communities after natural disasters, coupled with its financial commitment and volunteers, they’re providing momentum to help us to attain our goals.”

Sea Bright Rising (seabrightrising.org) is a non-profit organization devoted to the relief of the needy and/or displaced and the general recovery of the town of Sea Bright, New Jersey as a result of the devastation created by Hurricane Sandy.
